New sculptures for 2018

In the past few months I have focused on creating female bodies in my studio. As with some of my previous work, I am still very interested in the idea of a rising tides. I love the metaphor of a color gradient which represents a state of flux or movement; you can’t tell if the color is flowing out of the figures or rising up to drown them.

The standing figure is my first piece at this scale, and it is also my first piece in which I sewed the skin with fabric that I had dyed myself. While I love the blue of cyanotype (which you will recognize from my previous bodies of work) I am very excited by the possibility of expanding my color palette into warmer hues as well as distinct blues.

Stay tuned for more work as I prepare for a large solo show “Ebb Tide”, opening this September, at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens.
