Her Flowers

I thought that I was coming to build some type of installation. My work has recently been morphing over the past several weeks into thoughts about the ways to honor the life of my mother. She passed away in 2018. I’ve spent a lot of time looking at her life in a negative light as she did not have the mental capacity to raise us. In honoring her I acknowledge all of the unseen work of Mother and recognize Mother as a person who had a life and dreams beforehand.

I am happy to have the space to ruminate with these thoughts and explore the many levels of this project. Using weathered wood, burlap, ebony – each material having it’s own history and story to tell. I’m looking forward to seeing where it all lands.

Oh and if you are out and about on February 3rd 2023 visit me at the Kaplan Gallery of Bloomfield, NJ. I’m excited to display a selection of my Witness sculptures alongside these artists!
